Recognizing the importance and value of agritourism to the state of Michigan, we are excited to announce the inaugural Michigan Agritourism Summit will be held on Wednesday, May 8 in Traverse City.

Agriculture and Tourism are major industries for the state of Michigan – generating $105 billion and $3.1 billion respectively – and blending the two provides significant economic opportunities for both the farmer and the municipality. Yet, there are often conflicts between local residents, governmental entities and farm-based enterprises in agricultural districts that need to be addressed and resolved.

This collaborative one-day event aims to plant seeds for future growth, which can create a resilient, sustainable and more viable agritourism industry for generations to come. The event will feature educational sessions and networking opportunities, including the sharing of information and best practices from a variety of sectors – farmers, municipal officials, agritourism businesses and other community leaders with an interest in rural entrepreneurship and economic development – while cultivating ongoing communication for the benefit of all.

We are contacting local, regional and statewide organizations such as yours to help us foster this important discussion and lend another voice to the conversation. If you are interested in supporting our efforts and would be willing to let us include your organization logo on our promotional materials, please let us know. We also have a variety of sponsorship opportunities available. Our objectives and sponsorship opportunities are attached.

Our goal is to announce this event to the media and public before the end of October, as part of Michigan Agritourism Month.
