Mackinaw Trail Winery & Brewery

Mackinaw Trail Winery & Brewery began in 2004 in Manistique, Michigan, as the realization of Ralph and Laurie Stabile’s dream to share their Sicilian winemaking heritage. Since then, the family business has crafted exceptional wines and helped other wineries get their start. The business is an active part of the community, supporting local agriculture nonprofit organizations and hosting events, including an annual Wine Run 5K. Coming from a deep-rooted tradition, it’s now a beacon for the state.

Petoskey
Brewing Company

Operating out of the historic 1898 “Old Brewery,” Petoskey Brewing Co. was originally famous for producing the Petoskey Sparkle Beer.

Standing at four stories, the structure followed brewing practices of the 19th century and relied on gravity to move liquid through the production process.

In 1915, the brewery closed, but the building served as an array of different purposes for nearly a century before being purchased and restored by Lou Gostinger in 2012.

Now, at almost 115 years old, this brewery is a staple in Michigan’s craft beverage history and focuses on producing quality craft from local ingredients.

A Petoskey stone. A Petoskey stone.

Fun fact

Michigan’s state stone is the Petoskey stone. Since Petoskey stones hide in plain sight — seeming ordinary while dry but revealing their distinguishable look once wet — they are often hunted along the shoreline by tourists and locals alike.

Your heart beats in your ears — quicker than you’d like. But the wind from this high up is oddly welcome. You bring up the rear of the small queue of your friends, gripping the side of the suspension bridge you traverse. Halfway across, it’s exhilarating. Looking around, you’re level with some of the tallest trees, watching their shifting leaves. You might just take your time.
Budding ribbons of purple and green float in the night sky. They’re dim at first, but it’s enough to make you stop and sit to simply watch. Your loved one sits beside you, and together you both begin to sip from your favorite craft beverages. Soon dancing colors fill the sky with light. Unplanned, mesmerizing and ephemeral. The thought makes you strangely sad and then … serene.
